The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is one of the largest business schools in the world. Students can earn bachelor's and master’s degrees and doctorates in a range of fields, including accounting, business management and statistics. While Wharton doesn’t offer internships to students, it encourages students to secure summer internships and offers fellowships to students who intern with specific types of companies.

Career Services

The Career Services department at Wharton arranges networking expos for first-year students enrolled in its MBA program to meet with between 20 and 25 employers who offer summer internships. Wharton also lets alumni post information on the MBA Job Board about internships and jobs. Students at the University of Pennsylvania can also attend career-specific internship and employment fairs, such as for students interested in a political, medical or business career.

Summer MBA Internships

Most students enrolled in Wharton’s prestigious MBA program spend the summer between their first and second years completing an internship, volunteering or attending group informational interviews with prominent companies. Internships tend to last between six and 12 weeks. During these internships, Wharton expects students to develop and enhance skills to help them find a job after graduation.

Wharton Women in Business

The Wharton Women in Business (WWIB) professional organization offers career, mentoring and networking opportunities for women at Wharton. Join this organization and you can meet with employers during industry lunches and coffee chats. You can also participate in workshops, attend the WWIB speaker series and work closely with a mentor. WWIB also offers resume-review services and sessions for practicing your interview skills.

Other Networking Opportunities

Wharton offers students chances to network with classmates and faculty members inside and outside class and with alumni. They also can network with business leaders through Wharton’s executive speaker series, at conferences and at on-campus recruiting events. For example, every year, members of the Black Wharton Undergraduate Association can attend the Howard E. Mitchell Memorial Conference. At the conference, students mingle and network with successful alumni and recruiters from corporations. The conference includes a dinner reception, career fair, luncheon and panel discussion with representatives from Black Wharton’s sponsors. Business leaders also give guest lectures on campus.

Fellowships

Intern at a start-up and you may be eligible for a Wharton fellowship. Up to four interns can receive a $4,000 fellowship from Wharton as long as the start-up where they intern agrees to match or exceed this funding. Wharton also offers traditional intern fellowships to students. These fellowships don’t require the start-up to match or exceed fellowship funding. Wharton bases the number of fellowships it awards on the number of applicants and on need. Fellowships can range from $500 to $5,000.
