Gynecologic sonographers are diagnostic medical sonographers who use ultrasound technology to produce visual images of parts of the female reproductive system such as the ovaries or uterus that can assist doctors in making diagnoses. Most schools do not offer a specialized degree or certification program in gynecologic sonography. Rather, diagnostic medical sonographers who wish to have a specialized career in gynecologic sonography should take elective courses in gynecological sonography while pursing a degree as a diagnostic medical sonographer and then receive on-the-job training in gynecologic sonography.

    Step 1

Earn either an associate's or bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography from an accredited college or university. An associate's degree will typically take two years to earn, whereas a bachelor's degree will typically take four years. Students who earn an associate's degree in sonography are generally eligible for entry-level jobs in sonography. Students who earn a bachelor's degree in sonography are eligible for professional certification as a sonographer, which may lead to higher paying and more demanding sonography jobs.

    Step 2

    Step 4

Send your resume to medical practices specializing in gynecology and obstetrics, hospitals and sonography centers. Also, contact your school's career services department for job leads.
